The Vibes: 90’s Summer Camp Cabin

“You Never Looked Better”

So, you want a powder room that's gives off 90’s Parent Trap Camp Vibes and as colorful as a Pendleton Glacier Blanket? Well, you've come to the right place. And as Let's dive into this renovation and make your bathroom the talk of the town (or at least your neighborhood).

I didn’t think that people would be so polarized when it came down to the colors that I chose and how I did this project in general. But let me tell you, people either HATE it, or they are in LOVE. Its defiantly a “Trust the Process” project but the ending is just too good!

You're here because you want a powder room that's not just functional but also visually appealing. You want a space that reflects your style and makes you feel good. Let's get started and Here are the Inspo Pics that I Gathered from:

K.I.S.S. - Keep it Simple Stupid

Don't overthink it. Decide on a color palette, choose your materials, and get a basic plan together. It doesn't have to be perfect. I chose to be inspired by the Pendleton Glacier National Park Blanket, so Navy, Forest Green, A Burnt Red, and a Mustard Yellow. Now these colors aren’t for everybody, but I think they worked.

Okay, let's get this show on the road! Creating a striped wall is like dressing up your room in a fancy outfit. It's all about precision and a little bit of flair.

First, decide on your stripe width and spacing. Are you going for a classic, narrow stripe, or a bold, wide one? Once you’ve got that figured out, it's time to mark the lines on your wall. Use a level and pencil to make sure they're perfectly straight – no crooked lines allowed!

Now, comes the fun part: applying the painter's tape. Imagine you're a fashion designer, and the tape is your fabric.Carefully place the tape along the marked lines, making sure it adheres firmly to the wall. A little tip: smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with your fingers and Wipe down with water so the tape adheres.

Once the tape is up, it's time to unleash your inner artist and paint those stripes! A Huge tip that I heard about was to paint the wall color first before going over it with the stripe color. I did this and honestly it still bled, so just pray and accept that you’re going to have to do touch ups.

Creating the Perfect Stripes

A successful striped wall project requires the right tools. Here's a breakdown of the essentials:

  • Laser Level: This handy tool ensures your lines are perfectly straight, eliminating the guesswork and ensuring a professional look.

  • Painter's Tape: A must-have for achieving clean, crisp lines. Choose a high-quality painter's tape that adheres well to your walls and peels off cleanly without damaging the paint. I used Scotch Brand and Frog Tape, Both ended up bleeding but the Frog Tape didn’t as bad.

  • 2-inch Paint Roller: For large areas, a 2-inch paint roller is ideal. It provides even coverage and helps you finish the job quickly.

  • Angled Paint Brush: For cutting in along the edges of your stripes and reaching tight corners, an angled paint brush is essential. It allows you to create precise lines and avoid smudges.

The Finishing Vintage Touch

To truly capture the essence of a vintage lake cabin or summer camp, consider incorporating these decorative elements into your bathroom:

  • Rustic Wood Accents: Add warmth and character to your bathroom with rustic wood accents, such as a wooden vanity, shelving, or a framed mirror with a wooden frame.

  • Natural Elements: Bring the outdoors inside by incorporating natural elements like stone tiles, wicker baskets, or live plants. These elements can create a serene and relaxing atmosphere.

  • Nautical Themes: If your lake cabin or summer camp has a nautical theme, incorporate elements like pennant flags, life jackets or nautical-inspired artwork.

  • Vintage Lighting: Vintage lighting fixtures, such as pendant lights or wall sconces, can add a touch of nostalgia and charm to your bathroom.

  • Textured Fabrics: Use textured fabrics like linen, cotton, or burlap for towels, curtains, or rugs to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

By combining these elements, you can transform your bathroom into a peaceful and relaxing retreat that evokes the nostalgic charm of a vintage lake cabin or summer camp.

So Here’s the Real question: Do you Love it and are totally taken back by how much you love it. Or do you absolutely hate it and it’s giving Chuck E.Cheese, Packers Christmas, Zebra Stripe Gum in a Mexican Bathroom? Let me know!
